Hatch and Match

September 30, 2019 all-day

Hatch and Match is an exhibition of vintage clothing celebrating two of the great occasions of life – birth and marriage and the fashions which accompany them.
‘Hatches Matches and Dispatches’ comes from the popular name of the front page of the London Times, which for a time since April 1854 devoted its famous columns to the announcement of births, marriages and deaths. These were pored over by generations of young people checking the births and marriages and by older people looking to see which of their friends was left and which of their enemies had passed away.
The Hatch and Match exhibition is being held in the Upstairs Gallery @ Run Rabbit Run café at 24 Hargraves Street in Castlemaine until September 30. It features a special selection of baby and bridal costumes spanning the years from the beginning to the end of the 20th century.
The exhibition is open daily except Wednesday when by earlier arrangement High Tea will be served among the exhibits. A menu of delicious treats served with full silver service will be available, and includes a welcoming glass of bubbles on arrival.
Bookings can be made on 5470 5712.
